How I went from Broke to Beast Mode, and Why You can Too
We love the idea of chasing goals, success, money, health, freedom, but most people never leave their comfort zone long enough to reach those goals. This post is for the few who are ready to stop talking and start doing.
Everyone has goals. Some goals are certainly bigger than others, but each day we wake up and want to achieve something.
I’ll be the first to say, that’s an amazing mindset to have. Without goals, we would all just wake up in the morning with no idea what to do. Basically merging into the flow of life and getting carried along with the mass of humanity with no plans and no future. So with goals, we are able to rise above that and set ourselves apart from the masses.
What tends to happen though, is these goals stay put in our minds, never really taking off. Sure, sometimes we tell our friends or family. We may even post on social media about something we are working towards or wanting to achieve, but for most people, these goals never make it past the first few steps.
Why Sacrifice Is the Price of Progress
To achieve your goals, you have to be able to make SACRIFICES along the way. No one who is successful in life, and you can define successful anyway you want to, became that way without sacrificing something.
The tradeoffs no one wants to make
If you want to be wealthier, healthier or happier, it’s going to take either more or less of something from you:
- Less sleep
- More hours at work
- Less eating out
- Less impulse purchases
- More home cooked meals
- Less buying name brands
- More buying used over new
If you’re not willing to do ANY of those, then it’s never going to work.
So much of the middle class wants to become financially independent, but no one wants to save more than they spend. No one wants to put down social media for 5 minutes and read something that will teach them how to invest. No one wants to give up their daily latte to save money and lose weight at the same time.
January 1st rolls around and every other post on social media is New Year New Me. But no one wants to actually put in the work to become a new you! No one wants to grind! Everybody wants to be a Beast, until it’s time to do what beasts do!
Sacrifices can be small to start
When making sacrifices, you don’t have to go full cold turkey. You can still enjoy life along the way. After all, the things I hear most often from the pessimists are “you can’t take it with you when you go” or “you only live once”.
So go enjoy a night out with friends, but opt for 1 round of drinks instead of 2-3. Choose the smaller, cheaper entrée instead of the fancy, expensive one. Buy that new phone you “need”, but buy the one that’s 2 or 3 model years older, instead of the one that just rolled off the factory line!
But just know the more beast mode you go and the more sacrifices you make, the quicker you will reach your goals!
The Grind: Where Beast Mode Starts
Small sacrifices are a great way to start, but going full beast mode eventually requires more. It’s easy to give up a few things here and there. Too often people will:
- Go to the gym for a week
- Save 10% of their paycheck for 1 month
- Stop drinking soda for a few days
And then you end up telling yourself you don’t have enough time, you’re not ready yet, I’ll do it tomorrow.
It’s so easy to be a beast in our minds. There is no pressure, there is no ACTION. We can go on living that fantasy forever.
So how do we get past the excuses?
In order to be an actual BEAST, you have to be ready to put in the work! You have to GRIND!
There really is no special secret, no way to sugar coat it. Successful people grind.
But get this, to get where you want to be doesn’t require you to be the smartest, the quickest, the strongest, or require an advanced degree. You just have to take action and move closer to your goals every single day. There are no days off when going beast mode!
You have to be willing to get up early.
You have to be willing to put in whatever it takes.
You must be able to push through obstacles in your way.
Becoming a Beast Means Loving the Process
It’s not just about reaching your goals. It’s the process along the way. And it’s the process that will have the greatest impact on future goals.
“A part of being a beast is the hunts. Real beasts like to hunt. They love the PROCESS just as much as they love the prize.” – Eric Thomas
Some of you just want the success without putting in the work. You want to get rich on a middle class income without saving and investing your money. You want to be in the best shape of your life without changing your diet and exercising habits.
“If you want something you have never had, you first need to do something you have never done.“
Thomas Jefferson
I’ve talked so much about changing your mindset now that hopefully you are starting to realize that it’s the first step towards anything. All of your wealth, health, and self goals start with changing your mindset.
My Own Turning Point From Broke to Beast
Check out the About Me section of this site, and you can see what I did to go from broke to beast.
At 27 years old, I had just spent ALL of my savings on a new car and I was DEAD BROKE. At this point, I was still living at home with my parents. I had zero dollars in my bank account, was eating fast food and processed garbage, and my mind and body were breaking down due to all the bad habits and stresses of life.
That was my rock bottom. That was the point I realized something needed to change. I needed to grind!
So I made sacrifices and focused on:
- SAVING over spending
- The QUALITY of the food I ate
- Exercising became a HABIT and not just an option
Basically I put my money, my body and my mind FIRST above all else. I made sacrifices, although small at first, that turned into lasting habits that created huge impacts for future success. Those daily decisions are what took me from broke to beast mode, one step at a time.
Every single day, I woke up and decided to be 1% better than the day before. There were no days off, no cheat days, no “I don’t feel like it today”.
Final Thoughts
Going beast mode in life doesn’t require perfection, privilege, or superhuman talent. It requires action. It requires sacrifice. And most importantly, it requires consistency. Anyone can talk about goals, but only a few are willing to do the quiet, often invisible work to make those goals real. Whether it’s waking up earlier, skipping luxuries, or trading comfort for growth, the life you want is available if you’re ready to grind for it.
Start small. Stay focused. Go beast mode in life.
